The Shepton Mallet office was opened 50 years ago (in 1958) by Ted Hallam then of Thatcher and Hallam Solicitors.

Our Director Bill Bartlett joined Thatcher and Hallam in 1967 and took over the Office in the early 1970′s under the name of Thatcher and Bartlett before relocating to the current premises in 1982 which created the space needed to grow the business.  It is now a thriving town centre Office where Bill has developed an enviable agricultural, commercial and private client base.  Directors Dervla Nash and libby Rae are also based at this Office which is easily located being directly opposite Haskins in the High Street.

We had the misfortune of coming across this firm of solicitors when purchasing a property and our sellers instructed... Libby Stoodley (please note, therefore, that we were not a client of BGW solicitors). Unfortunately, the whole conveyancing process was littered with poor communication, a lack of responsiveness, dishonesty, ineptitude and incompetence. Despite what should have been relatively simple issues to resolve, we and Miss Stoodley's clients (our sellers) were kept unapprised of what was being done. Issues emerged on the day of exchange, despite confirmation that afternoon that things could progress, creating a 4 week delay. We were given false information, information that Ms Stoodley would have known was incorrect. Even when her clients gave her instructions to proceed, she was incapable of reading a basic email. The whole process was unbelievably stressful, which for her clients, who were in their eighties, must have been dreadful and should have been avoided. Put shortly, I would wholeheartedly not recommend these solicitors.read more

We recently used BGW for both our buying and selling conveyancing and received excellent service throughout. Would... definitely recommend. Very prompt with their actions and helped get us through a complex transaction as it involved HelptoBuy, a Lifetime ISA, management companies, indemnities, renegotiations, and a tailored contract exchange process. Thank you Andrew and team!read more

Andrew Cutland...... You hero. Made the whole process a dream. We had some difficulties with the vendor, I was advice... accordingly and was all dealt with efficiently to allow the process to continue. Every and any question was welcome and we were made to feel safe as the process of buying a house for the first time can be unsettling. It was a pleasure to use these solicitors for our first purchase and will be certainly returning. What a lovely experience thank you!!!!!read more

We just completed on our purchase with Andrew Cutland acting for us. Andrew was brilliant in getting everything done... quickly. We were set a very short deadline which we met (but others didn't) thanks mainly to Andrew's quick work.Andrew and Cindy's communication was very frequent, friendly and concise - their assistance really helped the whole process for us and we can't thank them enough!read more

Communication absolutely appalling would not recommend them at all .After putting a offer on a property that a local... estate agent has on her books we was messed about for approx 17 days before the solicitor gave us a answer that our offer would not be excepted .Even the estate agent told us it was disgusting and frustrating because she was doing her best to sell the property but was not getting anywhere with the solicitor involved with the sale .the estate agent even told us that the solicitor told her off and to stop ringing her and would give them a answer when she is ready to . We was told a price they needed to get by the estate agent now it has increased by £5000 .All proceeds from the sale is to be split by 3 charities .we are cash buyers ready to proceed but all this made no difference it seems to me that the charities involved are not desperate for the funds or someone else is making decisions on there behalf as it doesn't take 17 days to say yes or no .very frustrated will be looking elsewhere .read more
